HaloScan Trackback (and Commenting)

Based on the BlogDrive forum topic by MarkAdams

HaloScan

What is Haloscan Trackback? Trackback is a system [...] that alerts and allows a blogger to see who has blogged about posts on his or her blog. The system works by sending a 'ping' between the blogs, and therefore providing the alert. Read more here.

Instructions? First, register for a Haloscan account. Then install the following codes which comes in three parts.
  1. Insert the following right after the <HEAD> tag in your "Main Template" section. The red represents where your username should be replaced.
    <script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.haloscan.com/load/username"></script>
  2. Insert the following right after the [permalink] tag in your "Main Template". Remove either Comments or Trackback if you do not need them. Note: You must have your permalink enabled.
    <script type="text/javascript"><!--//
    // written by http://design.blogdrive.com/ for Haloscan Trackback
    permalink = '[permalink]';
    permalink = (permalink.length>1?permalink:location.href);
    pid = (permalink.indexOf(".html")>0?permalink.substring(permalink.indexOf("archive")+8,permalink.indexOf(".html")):"mainpage");

    //--- Haloscan Comments Starts
    document.write("<a href=\"javascript:HaloScan('"+pid+"');\" target=\"_self\">");
    postCount(pid);
    document.write("</a>");
    //--- Haloscan Comments Ends

    document.write(" | "); // divider

    //--- Haloscan Trackback Starts
    document.write("<a href=\"javascript:HaloScanTB('"+pid+"');\" target=\"_self\">");
    postCountTB(pid);
    document.write("</a>");
    //--- Haloscan Trackback Ends

    //--></script>
  3. Paste Part 3 anywhere in your blog.
    <a href="http://www.haloscan.com/"><img width="88" height="31" src="http://www.haloscan.com/halolink.gif" border="0" alt="Weblog Commenting and Trackback by HaloScan.com" /></a>

Any questions? Feel free to post your comments or enquiries. Somebody will definitely answer to your needs.

Haloscan Comment is the same as that of BlogDrive, but not as good.

Trackback is a system [...] that alerts and allows a blogger to see who has blogged about posts on his or her blog. The system works by sending a 'ping' between the blogs, and therefore providing the alert.

pardon me for my innocence about the subject, but what does this haloscan do? I have installed it, but it seems like its about the same as Drive's comments feature..

Please advise. :D

That looks about right!

Remember that the "[time]" for "Name" vairiable is substituted TWICE in part two of the code.

Part three is just a graphic and link back to Haloscan which can go anywhere on your blog.

The original code Haloscan will generate includes Haloscan's comments link too, but it is easily taken out -- it is the first part of their code in Part Two.

I find Blogdrive's comments far superior: longer posts without upgrade and completely modifiable.

Haloscan has some very fine tutorials on how to use Trackbacks now that you have them.

Enjoy.
